Sill or Beam Replacement

Sill

The most common forms of sill damage occur from termites, carpenter ants, and moisture problems. Sills in older colonial homes and barns, unfortunately, tend to be at – or just above-  grade, making them highly susceptible to decay.

Newer homes can also experience these problems since sills tend to rot from the outside first, and may look fine from the basement when in reality they are not at all.

Beam

Structural beams may require replacement due to insect and moisture damage or inadequate installation. Additionally, under-sized beams or beams with improper column spacing, can lead to beam deflection and cracking, which commonly results in sagging walls and floors.

We can install engineered beams to allow load-bearing walls to be removed and create a more open and flowing floor plan in your home.

Beam Material Options

When replacing a beam in your home or structure, there are different material options to choose from.

    Solid Wood

Solid wood timber stock which is saw-cut from trees, as requested.

    Engineered Wood Beams

Engineered man-made laminated wood beams such as L.V.L.’s (Laminated Veneer Lumber), Microllam®,  and steel beams are stronger and allow for greater column spacing.

Steel or engineered wood beams can be sistered with existing beams to improve the structure.
