Sill Replacement – Beam Replacement

Most common forms of sill damage occur from termites, carpenter ants and moisture problems. Sills in older colonial homes and barns tend to be at or just above grade, making them susceptible to decay. Newer homes can also experience these problems. Since sills tend to rot from the outside in and may look fine from the basement, when in reality their not!   Beams also suffer from the above types of damages. Beams also experience problems relating to inadequate column spacing and beam under sizing, which can lead to beam deflection and cracking. This can cause sagging walls and floors. With over 25 years experience in sill replacement beam replacement and other structural repairs, M J Murphy Structural is able to access, quote and perform the work related to you project. We provide all necessary jacking and shoring in sill replacement, beam replacement and other structural repairs. We replace sills and install sheathing and siding which was removed. In some instances we install copper termite barriers. M J Murphy Structural can replace beams with solid wood timber stock which are saw cut from trees. Engineered man made laminated wood beams such as L.V.L.’s, microlams and steel beams are stronger and allow for greater column spacing are also highly recommended. In some instances we can sister existing beams with steel or engineered wood beams. If you would like to create a more open and flowing floor plan in your home we can remove load bearing walls and install engineered beams in their place.
