Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen if I don't repair my damaged sills or beams?
Walls, floors, and ceilings can begin to crack, buckle, and become out of level. This will cause uneven load distributions which can lead to stress problems at other structural points.
Can a carpenter or general contractor fix our structural problems?
Most likely not the way we can. Structural problems have to be done once and done right. We have had to rework jobs done by others after home inspections have failed, owners were concerned about quality or additional problems with structure have occurred due to poor workmanship and lack of engineering skills. Structural repair is a trade in itself.
Do you actually do the work yourselves?
We are not a company that subcontracts or sends a crew of workers to your home. We are on the job, doing the work and there to address any concerns you may have.
Do you work on both old and new houses?
The answer is yes, and the knowledge and quality of work is equal for both. New houses unfortunately also experience structural problems.
Can we live in our house during construction?
Yes, 99.9% of the time.
Do you charge for an estimate?
That depends on location and if the property is for sale.
We are quite a distance away, do you work in our area?
M.J. Murphy Structural services all of MA, RI and areas of CT.
Do you provide references?
Yes, we do. To respect the privacy of our customers we do not list them on our website. M. J. Murphy Structural will provide references with our written quotes.
